# Adding Icons to Categories

HelpDocs ships with the ability to choose from a library of icons and easily add them to your categories [and articles](/article/sxq6nk86vc-adding-icons-to-articles).

Adding icons to categories is not supported on every template. Check out [our feature matrix here](https://support.helpdocs.io/article/uQDebSnIrD-choosing-a-layout#feature_matrix) for more info.

### Adding Icons to Categories

**Pro tip**: Fancy using your own icon? On [our latest templates](/article/uQDebSnIrD-choosing-a-layout) (and [custom ones](/article/l8q1fmsnx7-getting-started-with-a-custom-html-template)) you can upload your own icon. We recommend using an SVG or an image around 100px by 100px.

1. Head to the **Content** tab (or [click here](https://my.helpdocs.io/app/content))
2. Head to the category and click **☰** **More** > **Edit metadata**
3. Choose your icon
   
   1. You can pick from the **Icon** dropdown menu
   2. or click the upload icon to add a custom icon
4. Hit **Save changes**
