# Connecting Segment

[Segment](https://www.segment.com) helps you collect all of your customer data and send it anywhere. This means you can track entire user journeys and send your analytics to multiple destinations HelpDocs integrates with Segment so you can track users viewing your knowledge base too. 

### Connecting Segment

You'll need to have a **JavaScript Source** (not a **Cloud Source**) in your Segment account for HelpDocs. If you have an existing Source for your marketing site or app, you can use that.

1. In your Segment account
   
   1. Head to the **Source** you'd like to use
   2. Go to **Settings** > **Keys**
   3. Copy your **Write Key** to your clipboard
2. In the HelpDocs dashboard
   
   1. Go to **Settings** > **Integrations** (or [click here](https://my.helpdocs.io/app/settings?tab=integrations))
   2. Find **Segment**
   3. Click ☰ **More** > **Connect**
   4. Paste your **Write Key** into the **Segment Write Key** box
   5. Click **Save Changes**

We'll start sending data over to Segment right away.

Users are tracked anonymously with **Analytics.js**. Segment will only send your data to integrations like Google Analytics that don't require user data.
