The Block Editor is our new text editor that's been built from the ground up to make technical writing effortless. If you're coming from our legacy editor, you'll notice some exciting changes that'll transform how you create content.

πŸ§ͺ The Block editor is currently in Beta. We'd be grateful if you could let us know if you encounter any problems.

What Makes the Block Editor Different

This isn't just a simple update, it's a completely reimagined writing experience. The Block Editor introduces powerful new capabilities that make content creation more intuitive:

  • Drag and drop editing: Move elements around your article with ease
  • Smart element conversion: Transform content types without starting over
  • Enhanced performance: Faster loading and smoother editing experience
  • Improved user experience: Cleaner interface with better accessibility

From Toolbar to Slash Commands

The biggest change you'll notice is how you add content. Gone are the days of hunting through toolbar buttons. You can now use slash commands to bring up contextual menus, making your workflow much more speedy.

Simply type / anywhere in your article and you'll see a menu of options. Want to add a callout? Type /tip or /note. Need a code block? Try /code. It's that simple.

And you can do it inside a current block. So if you want an image inside a text block, just type /image and it's super simple to insert. No clicking needed ☺️

The slash command menu is context-aware, so you'll only see options that make sense for where you're writing. No more confusion about what elements can go where!
Modal saying 'Not available in this context'.

Getting Started

Ready to dive in? The Block Editor maintains all the content blocks you know and love. HTML blocks, code blocks, quote blocks, and more. The difference is in how you access and manipulate them.

Start typing and use slash commands to explore. You'll quickly discover that this new approach makes writing documentation faster and more enjoyable than ever before ✨
