Want to lock down your Knowledge Base so only specific IP addresses can access it? IP restriction lets you control exactly which networks can view your docs, making it perfect for internal company documentation or partner-specific content 🔐
This feature works with both individual IP addresses and CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) blocks, giving you flexible control over who can access your content from where.
Why use IP restriction?
IP restriction is super handy for several scenarios:
Corporate intranets - Keep internal documentation accessible only from your office network
Partner portals - Restrict access to specific partner networks or VPN connections
Regional compliance - Limit access to certain geographic regions based on IP ranges
Enhanced security - Add an extra layer of protection alongside other access controls
How to Enable IP Restriction
- Head to Settings > Access > Options
- Scroll down to the IP Restriction section
- Enter your allowed IP addresses or CIDR blocks (one per line)
- Hit Save Changes
You can enter individual IP addresses like 192.168.1.100 or entire network ranges using CIDR notation like 192.168.1.0/24.
192.168.1.0/24 includes all IP addresses from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254.Testing Your Setup
Once you've configured IP restriction, test it by:
- Accessing your Knowledge Base from an allowed IP address (should work normally)
- Trying to access from a different network (should be blocked)
- Confirming team members can still log in from any location
IP restriction works perfectly alongside other access controls like restricting to logged-in users, giving you layered security for your most sensitive documentation.
